Deep earth escapade: Pugad Sayaw Cave – Dakudao, San Isidro, Davao del Norte

This is the second part of  my San Isidro, Davao del Norte Adventure.

The day was fine and after the going through a maze of crawlways and small passage at Kabyawan cave and a good food for lunch, we are set to enter into the cave called Pugad Sayaw Cave.

Situated near the location of Kabayawan Cave, Pugad Sayaw Cave has a narrow cave entrance with a small pool and lush vegetations around its area.

Have you wondered why it is called Sayaw cave? Sayaw is a local name of a bird that inhabits the cave. These birds are internationally named Swiftlet birds that built nest entirely from their saliva and famous for “Chinese Delicacy Soup at some high end resorts and hotels.

What you know about Palawan bird nest soup were the same birds that can be found inside Sayaw cave. Thus, it is prohibited to take some nest for commercial or personal interest. Barangay Officials are committed to catch violators taking birds nest inside this cave. They already caught some as one of our diligent guide said.

Regrouping before entering the cave

Moving on to my story, we are advised to remove our shoes and before we go inside the cave barefooted.We are fascinated by the cave floors with rim stone formations that have a color of yellowish white which would easily discolor.

Flowstones are also visible on the narrow path with watercourse of clean mountain spring water. We had a hard time to explore further down the cave since the water level was high and the passage are small that some participants need to pass the crawl ways.

The thrill had been always there even if we did not pursue to go on further inside the cave. We are still lucky that these caves are magnificent in view and not just an ordinary hole on a mountain.

Good thing was we are able to visit the cave before it will host the 10th National Caving Convention this April.
