Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur: Maomawan Island

“If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if an island in the center of the sea has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive. “

Do you like being on an island? I can imagine old Philippine paintings on walls, old Jeepneys depicting an island with just one or 3 coconut trees no other else except its sand and a little grass clinging into the ground near the tree.

Municipality of Hinatuan has this uninhabited island off near its Poblacion. They call it Maomawan, and I could not find any clue as to who can give some descent information about this island. I was just told by the boatman that it is owned by a private citizen who also owns a petroleum station at the area of Hinatuan.

More of that, the island with an air distance of 4.3 Kilometers can be reached by a boat for about 20 to 30 minutes ride coming from Hinatuan Poblacion proper. The boat can be rented on a chartered basis so that you can stay for long. It is also a good idea to pitch tent there as long as the weather is normal.  When you are on that island standing, the sky is wide open as well. There are nearby uninhabited island called Tipdus Island which is about 3 kilometers in distance.  Distinct about this island are its remaining 5 coconut trees.

The R Tours facilitated this awesome experience with their Surigao del Sur Tour.

Enjoy!
